"Soft Tissue Management System"

Active Release Technique (ART®) is a patented, state of the art,
approach in the treatment of soft tissue injuries (i.e., muscles,
tendons, ligaments, nerves, and joints).

Dr. Valle is Livermore’s only fully credentialed ART® Provider. Dr Valle specializes in Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity, Spine and Nerve Entrapments. He has saved many people from the pain and dysfunction of chronic soft tissue injuries, and has also prevented the need for surgery in many cases.

The ART® method of treatment is based on scientific evidence that these soft tissues develop adhesions within, around, and between them after injury. Adhesions are naturally formed during the healing process, however, the presence of an adhesion after injury weakens the soft tissue's structure and causes it to be susceptible to future re-injury.

An injury can be a major trauma such as "tearing" of a muscle during a sporting event, however, most adhesions form from repetitive "microtrauma" in which over time small repetitive movements (activities of daily living, typing, etc.) cause injury to an area, as seen in the case of a tennis/golfer's elbow.

Credentialed ART® Practitioners have been extensively trained to locate and treat these areas of injury. However, to be successful the treatment must be specific. It is for this reason that only a Credentialed ART® Doctor should perform this procedure.

The ART® Procedure is a non-invasive (no drugs, surgery, or injections) hands on treatment that differs from other manual soft tissue techniques. While massage, myofascial release, rolfing, and acupuncture are all good short term approaches in the treatment of soft tissue injuries, ART® is the only technique that involves active patient movement during treatment to provide the specific and long lasting results that are needed to prevent re-injury.

ART® has proven to work where other forms of treatment have failed. Physical Therapy, cortisone injections, and surgery for soft tissue injuries all give limited relief and do not prevent re-injury. ART® specifically addresses the injured area by first breaking down the adhesions and scar tissue (surgery and cortisone injections create more adhesions and scar tissue, thus adding to the existing problem) thereby allowing the area to heal and become stronger with less chance of re-injury. For this very reason, Pro and amateur athletes in many sports have embraced ART® as the answer to rehabilitating an injured area as well as enhancing performance and strength.

ART® has proven to work for many people, athletes and non-athletes alike.  Its popularity has grown exponentially each year since its introduction. ART® will soon be considered the gold standard of care around the world for all soft tissue injuries, as it already has been for some time in our office.
